Occupation: Marine Systems Designer

Marine piping systems designers are responsible for preparing the layout and design of marine piping systems using 2D and 3D modeling software.

Program: Marine Engineering Systems Design

Institution: Marine Institute, St. John’s
Duration: Three years (six academic terms and three technical sessions)

Entrance Requirements:

High School Graduation Certificate with a 60% overall average in:

  • English 3201
  • Mathematics: 3200, 3201, 3204, or 3205
  • Science: Biology 3201, Physics 3204, Chemistry 3202, or Earth Systems 3209

Program Description:

This program was developed by the Marine Institute to bridge the gap between naval architecture and marine engineering.  Students learn about both disciplines and work closely with marine engineers and naval architects throughout their careers.  This program requires use of 2D and 3D modeling computer software applications.

Certification:

Graduates receive a Diploma of Technology in Marine Engineering Systems Design.

Technologists can register with the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and Labrador (AETTNL) as a Professional Technologist (P.Tech).  This designation requires two years of relevant work experience and successful completion of an exam.
