A few things you can do while you’re still in school

The choices you make in high school can improve your chances of achieving your career dreams. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Choose courses that are most relevant to the industry. For example, most technical positions require math and science backgrounds, so taking these courses in high school will help you in your post-secondary studies.
  • Ask your Career Development 2201 teacher to visit the educators section of this website, where they can find interesting and informative teaching resources related to the Newfoundland and Labrador oil & gas industry.
  • Go to career fairs. Take the time to talk to people who work in the industry. Ask about their background and experience, and listen to their advice.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities. Team programs are great chances to develop your communication and interpersonal skills, while sports offer a wonderful opportunity to stay in good physical shape and prevent injuries on the job.
